Free-Agent Fever

General | Mar 12th, 2014

Tuesday, March 11th marked the start of the free-agent scramble. With the draft approaching in May, many teams are beginning to restructure their rosters and they have an extra $10 million to do so. Over 100 players are free agents this year, from pro-bowl participates to veterans, there are valuable athletes on the market.

With signings in full force, many teams are predicted to be focusing on their defense. After all, this year’s Super Bowl champs, the Seattle Seahawks proved that defense wins championships. The Chicago Bears acted fast and signed defensive players Lamarr Houston, Ryan Mundy, D.J. Williams and Jordan Senn to strengthen their defensive line. AFC champions, the Denver Broncos, proved their offense wasn’t the problem last season after setting a NFL record scoring a total of 606 points. However, they recognize that they need to address their defense during this year’s free-agency period by adding Pro-Bowl DE, Demarcus Ware. The Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a few of the many teams eyeing up defensive players in preparation for a better 2014-2015 NFL season.

Bill Polian, former GM of the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills, seems to think that all the best players are already signed and left for picks are ‘B players’ whose agents are looking for ‘A money’.
