GOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLL -The adidas 2010 Official FIFA World Cup Match Ball 12.4.09

General | Dec 4th, 2009

The first time I experienced the World Cup, was the summer of 1998 in France. I had never been a soccer fan and was more interested in hitting up the shops on the Champs-Elysées then catching a soccer match.

While at a lunch that first memorable day, the bartender happened to have on the Italy vs France semi-finals playing on the TV. After casually glancing at the game every couple of minutes, I was hooked. The way the players moved the ball up and down the field was such an art form compared to my typical love for 300lb football players kicking the stuffing out of each other!

I had never been so interested in a game where no one had scored and after the game when into sudden death plenty kicks, you couldn’t pull me away from a TV with soccer on it. France ended up winning and I was able to hit up the Champs-Elysées not for shopping, but to watch the entire city of Paris celebrate like the Yankees had just won the World Series.

Every four years, the World Cup unites people around the globe in a way that few other sporting events can and introduces the sport of soccer to a whole new generation. With the next World Cup only a few short months away, adidas will launch the Official FIFA World Cup Match Ball today at 1pm at all Modell’s Sporting Goods locations. The design of the ball, which is unique every World Cup and always relates back to the host country, is under lock and key until Friday.  The match ball is the iconic symbol of the tournament and will be one of the hottest gifts of the holiday season for new and old soccer fans alike! This is one soccer ball you’ll want to get your hands on.
