A few months ago, I premiered to America on “Undercover Boss” as “Joey Glick”: a bald, former pizza parlor owner with a bad mustache and a deeper voice. I wanted to do the show to get a closer look at some issues Modell’s might be facing that as a CEO I might not be aware of. Getting to work with associates who are the direct contact between Modell’s and our customers was an experience every CEO should have. It made me ask myself, “What can I do to make a difference?” I learned some invaluable lessons from my time on the show – and I’ve grown my hair back in the meantime!
After filming, I also realized how much I wanted to be there for my family, especially as my children got older. But to do that, I knew I would have to make some major changes – I needed to take care of myself more physically. And I’ve been doing exactly that ever since.
As soon as I committed myself to exercising and dieting, the first thing I did was hire a trainer to help me on my journey towards a healthier future. I now work out 6 days a week, with John Wardell from Body Chemistry Fitness by my side teaching and encouraging me. I also stick to a nutritious diet that even allows me two “cheat meals” a week, because let’s face it – we all deserve a break sometimes.
I’m proud to announce that I have now lost a total of 60 lbs.! I’m finally accomplishing my goal of being a better, healthier version of myself. I’m sure I can speak for many people when I say that I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve started a health program to lose weight just too eventually give it up. But this time was different – I was completely focused on my goals after seeing myself on television, I took steps to prevent the obstacles that have blocked me in the past (hiring a trainer to keep me motivated), and I committed myself whole-heartedly. Now, I feel better than ever before!
I’ve still got a ways to go but this is a great start for me. Hard work pays off and it can for you too. If you’re thinking about giving up on your exercise or diet – don’t! I didn’t think I could get to this point but I have and I’m sure you can too.
