Operation Backpack

General | Aug 25th, 2010

Modell’s Sporting Goods will be partnering with Volunteers of America of Delaware Valley in South Jersey, for their program called Operation Backpack.

The goal of Operation Backpack is to raise 1,000 backpacks for children in need.  Donations are also being accepted in their main offices in Collingswood at 235 White Horse Pike until August 27th.

Modell’s Sporting Goods will support Operation Backpack by utilizing (5) South Jersey stores as drop off locations for new backpacks and school supplies starting this Thursday August 26th and running through Sunday, August 29th.  On Thursday August 26th from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. former NBA Player and Camden native Dajuan Wagner will make an appearance at the Modell’s in the Cherry Hill Mall (2000 Route 38, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034) to launch the partnership, meet and greet donors, and accept backpacks.

The five Modell’s locations that are participating in Operation Backpack are:

  • Cherry Hill Mall
  • Deptford Mall
  • Berlin Circle Plaza
  • Cinnaminson
  • Mt. Laurel

The Modell’s collection is in anticipation of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley’s Football Kickoff Classic when the backpacks will be given to children in need. The Kickoff Classic will put Whitman Park Youth Football teams Whitman Park Tigers and Centerville Simbas against each other in an exhibition game.  During the game, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley will be giving each child in attendance a new backpack filled with school supplies appropriate for their grade level.
